Thomas Roberts House is a Grade 2 Listed Building of Historical Interest that stands on the site of four or five spinners' and weavers' cottages in the ancient Market Town of Hatherleigh.

Extensive restoration by Charles and Anna Chalcraft, after the property had stood empty for 7 years, has returned this interesting old property back to one house with all modern amenities without losing its character. One of the guest rooms is named after them in tribute to their hard work. There are rumours that there is an underground tunnel from the cellar down into the town, so far this has eluded us!

THE BEDROOMS

The Thomas Roberts Room is named after the schoolmaster who owned the house from 1800 for almost 50 years. It is wonderfully light, with two large windows, one on the front of the house has expansive views over the thatched and slate rooftops of the town and beyond to the church spire, fields and trees. The other window overlooks part of our cobbled courtyard and it has plantation shutters. This gracious room has two single beds that can double up as a super king size bed, private bathroom with a blue ceramic tile floor and bath with shower. Alongside the built in hanging cupboard there is an unusual cast iron fireplace but it is for decoration only. The curtains are Laura Ashley material and interlined to offer additional weight. The furniture is mostly mahogany and antique. The inset wall cupboard has a collection of books and china. The other half houses a flatscreen TV and DVD with remote control.

The Carter Room, named after Angela's maternal family, is a romantic room with a queen size bed (5 foot) and a private bathroom with white marbled ceramic tile floor and a large shower. We are able to put an extra single bed in this room when required. There are two large windows with extensive views over the town and countryside, stunning sunsets make this room glow. A Victorian linen press provides hanging space with drawers and a glass topped dressing table with mirror for those last minute touches. There is a clock radio, TV and DVD player. The bedroom is furnished with antique furniture, paintings, co-ordinating linens and floral interlined curtains.

The Chalcraft Room is named after Charles and Anna who brought the house back to life. It has a queen size bed (5 foot) and a large window on the front of the house with views of High Street and over the town. There is a private bathroom with a white marbled ceramic tile floor and a large quadrant shower. The interlined curtains are reminiscent of a wonderful country garden. There is a wardrobe with hanging space and dressing table and a combined TV and DVD player.
