Accommodation details

Bidwell Farm and its two 5 star cottages sit within the Blackdown Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - just two minutes away from the sleepy, Domesday agricultural village of Up-Ottery. The River Otter which gives its name to the village, meanders and sparkles through this pretty valley and, yes, the otters are back! Up-Ottery was recently voted a “Best Kept Village” and has a splendid, welcoming church dating in parts back to 1150 and an equally welcoming pub which isn’t that much younger. Both are a delightful six minute walk away, across the Otter Bridge and then under a tree-canopied sun-dappled country road. Of an evening you can soak up the atmosphere of a true farmers’ pub, surrounded by conversations in the gentle Devon burr about skittles and the soil, themes as winding as the lanes themselves.

The Haybarton - sleeps 6 in 3 spacious en suite bedrooms

The Haybarton restored from its original use as a hay-store, conserves the best of its traditional features while providing very spacious modern facilities. Its three generous en suite double bedrooms (one ground floor twin-bedded) sleep six in elegant comfort. The spacious, well-appointed farmhouse kitchen can seat twelve at its solid refectory table. It has a beautiful, beamed and comfortable sitting room with wood burner and 42” television with Sky programmes.

The Cowbyre Cottage - sleeps 6, award winning cottage with three large, comfortable double bedrooms

The Cow Byre was recently converted into an award winning cottage with three large, comfortable double bedrooms all en suite - one ground floor twin-bedded, one lower ground with a 6 ft bed that can convert to twin if requested and one upstairs double. The Byre is a delightful mix of traditional and modern, with beams and wood burning stove but enjoys a contemporary open plan living/dining area with large wall mounted television and Sky programmes.

Bed & breakfast

The farmhouse lies about half a mile from the pretty Domesday farming village of Up-Ottery with its ancient staging post Inn, where you can enjoy modestly priced excellent food.

Guests can enjoy sitting in our five acre garden or fly fishing in our pond.

The farmhouse 1717 was totally restored only nine years ago and money and love have been invested in the property to make it our dream home, and we hope, your most enjoyable break.

Every bedroom in the farmhouse has unspoilt panoramic views of the beautiful Blackdown Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. TV and tea trays are in each of the farmhouse bedrooms.

Breakfast is regarded as a special meal and guests are pampered and offered a range of fresh produce including a chance to try our own wonderful duck eggs. All special diets will be catered for if notice is given.
